PORTALES — Logan Kenline won the steer wrestling event title as the South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams placed third and fifth respectively in their first rodeo of the season over the weekend at the Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo.

Kenline posted a 4.0 in the long round and turned in a time of 3.7 in the finals to finish with a 7.7 average and 165 points for the Texans. Brey Yore notched a fifth place overall finish in steer wrestling for SPC, running a 4.4 in the long round and a 4.4 in the finals to finish with an average of 8.8, totaling 40 points. Yore then turned in a fourth place finish in the tiedown roping finals, running a 9.0 in the long round and a 13.7 in the finals to finish with a 22.7 average and 80 points.

John Hisel placed fourth overall in team roping for South Plains, riding with Quade Hiatt of West Texas A&M. The duo posted a 7.3 in the long round and a 7.5 in the finals as Hisel tallied 65 individual points.

The Texans finished with 285 total points on the weekend. Tarleton State won the men's title with 500 points, while Western Texas College placed second with 460 points.

Emery Mask turned in a sixth place overall finish in barrel racing as the Amarillo native won the long round with a time of 17.28 before clocking a 22.39 in the finals to finish with a 39.67 average and 75 points.

The Lady Texans finished with 75 points on the weekend. Eastern New Mexico University won the women's title with 232.5 points, while Western Texas College was second with 142.5 points.

The Texans and Lady Texans will be back on the road next week in Alpine when they compete at the Sul Ross State University Rodeo Sept. 22-24.
