LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's 4x800 relay team has been tabbed the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association, as well as the NJCAA Track and Field National Athlete of the Week after outpacing the field at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Competing against the country's best, the Texans ran a blistering 7:20.31, which proved to be the second-fastest all-time mark in NJCAA history. Kimar Farquharson posted a 1:50.48 to open the race, which was followed up by a 1:52.86 from Dwight Mason. All-American Mehdi Yanoui touted a 1:49.05, while Aron Tanui close out the race with a 1:47.93 as South Plains became the first junior college to win the 4x800 at the Texas Relays.

The Texans took down the likes of Texas A&M, Arkansas, Houston, and Clemson, who placed second, third, and fourth, respectively. South Plains will be back on the track this weekend when they travel to San Angelo for the Angelo State David Noble Relays March 31-April 2.
