SPC track and field teams open indoor season Jan. 14-15 in Lubbock

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's track and field teams are set to open the 2022 indoor season this weekend when they compete at the Texas Tech Corky Classic Jan. 14-15 at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock.

South Plains amassed one of the top seasons in program history a year ago, bringing three national titles back home to Levelland. The Texans won both the men's indoor and outdoor trophies, while the Lady Texans won the women's outdoor title, their first since 2015.

SPC will one of 21 teams competing in Lubbock this weekend, joining the likes of Angelo State, Arizona, Baylor, Tarleton State, Texas State, New Mexico Junior College, and Texas Tech. Action will get underway on Friday with the field events at 3:30 p.m., with running events to follow at 5 p.m. Day two will kick off at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the men's and women's shot put, with running events slated to get underway at noon.
