Texans, Lady Texans host Odessa Thursday on Ameriprise Financial VIP Night

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's basketball teams will wrap up the regular season on Thursday when they host Odessa College on Ameriprise Financial VIP Night at the Texan Dome.

Matt Carr of Ameriprise Financial will be serving all South Plains College a fajita dinner and giving away a pair of gift cards to local restaurants to SPC employees at the half time of each game, must be present to win. Both games will also stream live at spctexans.com and can be heard locally on KLVT Radio Levelland AM1230.

With a share of the conference crown wrapped up, the third-ranked Lady Texans will look to win the conference outright with a win over the Lady Wranglers, with the contest slated for a 5:45 p.m. tip.

Currently 28-1 on the year and 12-1 in the WJCAC, South Plains topped Odessa 59-57 on March 27 on the road as sophomore Ruth Koang hit a 10-foot jumper at the buzzer to seal the win. Koang would finish with 14 points and nine rebounds, connecting on 7 of 15 shots from the floor and also recorded three blocked shots over 29 minutes. Sophomore point guard Caroline Germond tallied 14 points, seven assists, and two steals, netting 6 of 15 shots from the field in 38 minutes of action.

The Texans come in with a record of 19-8 on the year and 11-4 in the WJCAC and have won their last two in league play. South Plains bested Odessa 68-65 in their first matchup on the road behind Jevonnie Scott's 13 points. Freshman Benjamin Bayela finished with 12 points and four boards and was 6 of 7 from the free throw line in 23 minutes of action. Rivaldo Soares chipped in 11 points, four assists, and three rebounds as the Texans shot a 39 percent clip from the floor and 37.5 percent from distance.

The Texans come in currently third in the region as they look to hold off the Wranglers who need to win Thursday for an opportunity to qualify for the Region V Tournament. Following Thursday night, the Texans and Lady Texans will make their way to Abilene for the Region V Tournament hosted by Abilene Christian University March 4-7.
