ODESSA — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams saddled up for their sixth rodeo of the season this weekend at the Odessa College Rodeo at the Ector County Coliseum.

The Texans placed second overall in the team standings with 455 points with four cowboys earning a spot in Saturday night's short round finals. Tarleton State and Western Texas College tied for first in the men's final standings with 550 points. The Lady Texans didn't place in the team standings over the weekend but still sit in third place in the Southwest Region standings with 900 points.

Britton Bedke and Stefan Ramone got things rolling for the Texans in the tiedown roping event with both placing in the top six overall. Bedke placed fourth overall with 85 points, running a 9.3 in the long round and an 11.1 in the finals to finish with a 20.4 average. Ramone placed sixth with 30 points, turning in a 10.8 in the long round and a 10.7 in the short round to cap the vent with a 21.5 average.

In the steer wrestling event, South Plains' Dawson Stewart wrestled his way to a second place overall finish, running a 4.4 in the long round and an 8.9 in the finals to tack on 120 points for the Texans. The Texans had three cowboys qualify for the short round, as Ramone paired up with Tee McLeod from Eastern New Mexico with the pair turning in a 5.2 in the long round and a 10.9 in the finals, tacking on 40 points with their third place finish.  Bedke and Colton McCarley would then team up to earn a fifth place finish, running a 5.8 in the long round and an 11.7 in the short round, picking up 20 points with a 17.5 average.

South Plains will return to the arena in Sweetwater March 26-28 at the Ranger College Rodeo, followed by a trip to Snyder for the Western Texas College Rodeo April 2-4. SPC will then close out the year at the Howard College Rodeo April 16-18, followed by a trip to Stephenville for the Tarleton State University Rodeo April 23-25.
