LEVELLAND — Competing in her first collegiate competition in the United State, freshman Onaara Obamuwagun wasted little time as she broke the South Plains school record in the women's triple jump with a mark of 43' 3.75" at the Texas Tech Corky Classic on Saturday.

Obamuwagun's mark ranks second on the all-time junior college list and earned her USTFCCCA National Athlete of the week honors. Obamuwagun's jump is the farthest recorded since 2002, as she is the fifth female athlete from South Plains to earn National Athlete of the Week honors.

South Plains will be back on the track on Friday when they travel to Lubbock for the Texas Tech Red Raider Invitational.
