South Plains will be tested out of the blocks, competing against Div. I schools including Texas Tech, LSU, and the University of Houston. With 21 schools competing this weekend, South Plains is just one of three junior colleges represented at the meet, alongside New Mexico Junior College and Garden City.

Per the Texas Tech athletics website, all of their indoor meets hosted at the Sports Performance Center will be streaming live on their website. South Plains earned a pair of top five national finishes a year ago, with the Lady Texans placing third at the 2019 national meet in Kansas, with the Texans notching a fifth-place team finish. South Plains won its last national crown in 2018 when the Texans brought home the indoor national crown in front of their home crowd at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock.

The Texans and Lady Texans will both have to replace a number of key pieces from a year ago as they look to compete for national gold come season's end. Freshman Rylan Olguin returns for the Texans, a sophomore who brought home a fourth place national finish in the pole vault with a mark of 14' 9". The Lady Texans will look to sophomore All-American Gladys Jemaiyo who placed third a year ago at the national meet in the women's 5000 meters in a time of 17:16.70.

Following the weekend, South Plains will be back in Lubbock next weekend for the Texas Tech Red Raider Invitational Jan. 24-25, followed by a trip to College Station for the Charlie Thomas Invitational Feb. 7-8 at Texas A&M University.
