South Plains XC return to the course Tuesday in San Angelo

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's cross country teams are slated to return to the course Tuesday afternoon at the Angelo State University Blue/Gold Classic.

The meet will get underway with the women's 6k at 5:10 p.m., followed by the men's 8k at 5:45 p.m. at the ASU Intramural Complex. Results will become available at the end of the men's race and will be posted at spctexans.com.

The third-ranked South Plains College women's cross country team placed three runners inside the top 10 to capture their third meet title of the season on Oct. 5 at the South Plains College Cross Country Invitational at Brashear Lake Park.

The Lady Texans finished with 39 points, a total team time of a:37:56.10, and an average of 19:35.22. New Mexico Junior College took second with 41 points, followed by El Pass CC, Lubbock Christian and Angelo State.

Sophomore All-American Gladys Jemaiyo led the Lady Texans with a second-place overall finish, crossing the line in 18:04.90. Daisy Kibet was just a step behind, place fifth overall for South Plains in a time of 18:58.80. Sophomore Dorcus Ewoi was the third runner across the line for the Lady Texans, placing seventh with a final time of 19:15.70.

South Plains' Itzel Garcia-Santos and Nyia Sena finished inside the top 15 overall, with Garcia-Santos turning in a time of 20:36.30, good enough for 11th, while Sena clocked a 21:00.40 to take 14th overall.

The Texans finished fourth overall in the final team standings with 89 points, finishing with a total team time of 2:28:41.90, with an average of 29:44.38. El Pass CC won the men's division with 21 points, followed by New Mexico and Angelo State.

South Plains placed two runners in the top 10 as sophomore Alex Kitum led the Texans with a fifth-place finish in a time of 26:44.80, while freshman Abdirizak Ibrahim placed seventh, crossing the line in 27:17.60. Yusuf Mohamud finished 24th overall for the Texans with a time of 29:48.50, while Ryan Robinson was 27th in a time of 30:25.20.

Following Tuesday's race, South Plains will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 in Snyder at the NJCAA Region V Championships on the campus of Western Texas College.
