LEVELLAND — Looking to push their way up the Southwest Region standings, the South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams will travel to Canadian, Texas for the Frank Phillips College Rodeo Oct. 10-12.

The Lady Texans enter the weekend third in the region standings with 415 points, with Tarleton State (490) and Texas Tech (445) who hold the top two spots. The Texans head to Canadian eighth in the region with 365 points, with Clarendon (1,250), Western Texas (1,200), and Tarleton State (1,045) hold the top three positions.

South Plains picked up a pair of third-place finishes a week ago in Vernon to move up the region standings heading into the fourth rodeo of the season. The Texans tallied 260 points, trailing only Clarendon College, who took first with 530 points, and Tarleton State, who placed second with 470 points. The Lady Texans added 155 points to their season total, with Texas Tech placing first with 290 points, followed by Tarleton State, who took second with 255 points.

The Lady Texans placed a pair of cowgirls in the breakaway roping finals, with Clara Barrington placing second overall, while Elle Eagles placed sixth in Vernon. Barrington turned in a time of 2.9 in the long round, which she followed up with a  2.9 in the finals, capping the event with a 5.8 average and 95 points. Eagles clocked a 2.8 in the long round and turned in a time of 12.1 in the finals to end the event with a 14.9 average.

The Lady Texans added 60 more points to their season total in the goat tying event as sophomore Kaytlyn Miller earned a ninth-place overall finish. Miller clocked the fastest time in the long round with a 6.4, before running an 8.8 in the finals to finish with a 15.2 average. Sophomore Kenzee Zent placed ninth for the Lady Texans in barrel racing, turning in a time of 17.62 in the long round, before running a 24.34 in the short round to finish with a 41.96 average.

The Texans placed three cowboys in the steer wrestling finals, including freshman Clay Guthrie who took fourth overall. Guthrie clocked a 5.0 in the long round and a 5.3 in the short round, finishing with a 10.3 average and 90 points. Logan Kenline finished seventh in Vernon, running a 5.9 in the long round and a 9.7 in the finals, capping the event with a 15.6 average. Sophomore Britton Bedke tacked on 40 points for the Texans, running a 4.5 in the long round before a no time in the finals to finish with a 104.5 average.

In the team roping event, South Plains' Stefan Ramone teamed up with Tee McLeod of Eastern New Mexico to finish second overall. The duo ran a 7.2 in the long round and a 5.6 in the finals, finishing with a 12.8 average and 130 points. Hayden and Hadley Cloward notch 40 individual points in team roping, turning in a 6.0 in the long round and a 15.5 in the finals to finish with a 22.3 average.
