South Plains College rodeo teams return to the Arena Oct. 3-5 in Vernon

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams are slated to return to the arena this weekend when they travel to Vernon for the Vernon College Rodeo Oct. 3-5 at the Wilbarger County Event Center.

Competing in their second rodeo of the season a week ago in Alpine, the Texans and Lady Texans each placed in the top 10 in the final team standings at the Sul Ross State University Rodeo.

The Lady Texans capped the weekend with a sixth place team finish, netting 65 points. The Texans finished ninth overall in the final team standings, tacking on 75 points to their season total.

Sophomore Elle Eagles led the way for the Lady Texans with a fifth place finish in breakaway roping. Eagles ran a 2.3 in the long round and a 4.5 in the short round Saturday night to cap the event with a 6.8 average and 65 points. In the goat tying event, sophomore Kaytlyn Miller took 10th overall, running a 7.2 in the long round before recording a no time in the finals to finish with a 107.2 average.

The Texans were represented by a pair of cowboys in Saturday night's steer wrestling finals, as Britton Bedke notched a fifth place overall finish for South Plains. Bedke turned in a time of 5.4 in the long round which he followed up with a 4.5 in the finals to cap the event with a 9.9 average and 45 points. Dawson Stewart tacked on 30 more points thanks to a sixth place overall finish, running a 4.9 in the long round and a 5.0 the finals to finished with a 9.9 average.

Hayden and Hadley Cloward roped their way to a seventh place finish in team roping after running a 5.9 in the long round before a no time in the finals to cap the weekend with a 105.9 average and 20 individual points.  

Following the trip to Vernon, South Plains returns to action Oct.10-12 at the Frank Phillips College Rodeo in Canadian, TX.
