South Plains College rodeo teams earn top finishes in Alpine Saturday

ALPINE, TX — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams wrapped up their second rodeo of the season on Saturday at the Sul Ross State University Rodeo, each placing in the top 10 overall.

The Lady Texans capped the weekend with a sixth place team finish, netting 65 points. The Texans finished ninth overall in the final team standings, tacking on 75 points to their season total. South Plains will return to the arena Oct. 3-5 at the Vernon College Rodeo, followed by a trip to Canadian, TX for the Frank Phillips College Rodeo Oct. 10-12.

Sophomore Elle Eagles led the way for the Lady Texans with a fifth place finish in breakaway roping. Eagles ran a 2.3 in the long round and a 4.5 in the short round Saturday night to cap the event with a 6.8 average and 65 points. In the goat tying event, sophomore Kaytlyn Miller took 10th overall, running a 7.2 in the long round before recording a no time in the finals to finish with a 107.2 average.

The Texans were represented by a pair of cowboys in Saturday night's steer wrestling finals, as Britton Bedke notched a fifth place overall finish for South Plains. Bedke turned in a time of 5.4 in the long round which he followed up with a 4.5 in the finals to cap the event with a 9.9 average and 45 points. Dawson Stewart tacked on 30 more points thanks to a sixth place overall finish, running a 4.9 in the long round and a 5.0 the finals to finished with a 9.9 average.

Hayden and Hadley Cloward roped their way to a seventh place finish in team roping after running a 5.9 in the long round before a no time in the finals to cap the weekend with a 105.9 average and 20 individual points.
