No. 1 Texans, No. 3 Lady Texans look to grab national gold May 16-18 at 2019 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships

LEVELLAND — Championship weekend.

The South Plains College men's and women's track and field teams will compete for national gold May 16-18 at the 2019 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Hobbs, New Mexico on the campus of New Mexico Junior College.

The top-ranked Texans have hit 34 national qualifying marks to date, while the Lady Texans come into the meet ranked third, with 22 national qualifying marks on tap. Action will get underway on Thursday beginning with the women's combined events at 9 a.m., with the men's combined events slated to start at 9:15 a.m.  Live results and the full meet schedule can be found at the links below.  

The Texans, who will be in the hunt for their 12th outdoor national title, hold three of the top marks in the country as Bryson Deberry ranks first in the high jump with a mark of 7' 1.5", while Isaiah Griffith is first in the triple jump with a jump of 53' 1", and freshman Rylan Olguin is first in the pole vault with a clearance of 16' 0".

The Lady Texans will be looking for their first outdoor national crown since 2015, holding two of the top marks in the country. Freshman Gladys Jemaiyo is first in the 10,000 with a time of 34:58.67, while Akira Phillip is first in the javelin with a mark of 137' 8". Jemaiyo also ranks second in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:51.52, and third in the 1500 with a 4:41.51.
