LEVELLAND — For the fourth time in as many years, South Plains College rodeo coach Kerry Doster was named the Western Junior College Athletic Conference Women's Head Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Texans to their fourth consecutive Western Junior College Athletic Conference title.
The Lady Texans qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo for the second consecutive year after a second place finish in the Southwest Region. The Texans also proved to be one of the top programs in the region this season, finishing fourth overall in the final team standings.
South Plains freshman' standout Kaytlyn Miller won the women's all-around title with 1,147 points, qualifying for the CNFR finals June 9-15 in Casper, Wyoming. For her efforts, Miller was named the WJCAC Women's Athlete of the Year and will look to help the Lady Texans bring home their first national championship in program history.
Delaney Kunau and Miller also earned all-conference honors in individual events, with Kunau being named a First Team All-Conference selection in breakaway roping, while Miller was a First Team All-Conference selection in goat tying. Kunau finished the year fourth in the region with 350 points, while Miller finished third in the region with 690 points. Miller also earned honorable mention honors in barrel racing thanks to a third place finish in the region with 295 points.
South Plains' Grady Quam was touted as a First Team All-Conference selection in team roping (header) after winning the region with 610 points. Quam is joined by teammate Hayden Cloward who was named All-Conference Honorable Mention in team roping (header) after finishing third in the region with 515 points.
The Texans' Hadley Cloward garnered First Team All-Conference honors in team roping (heeler) after a fourth place finish in the region with 515 points. Also earning all-conference honors in team roping (heeler) is Stefan Ramone, who was named All-Conference Honorable Mention thanks to a seventh place finish in the region with 335 points.
The Texans picked up two more All-Conference Honorable Mention selections as Colton McCarley was named HM in tiedown roping, finishing 10th in the region with 245 points, While Dawson Stewart earned HM honors in steer wrestling after a fifth place finish in the region with 340 points.
