Gabbie Green signs with the University of Pittsburgh Wednesday

LEVELLAND — South Plains College First Team All-American Gabbie Green signed on the dotted line Wednesday afternoon, announcing she will continue her basketball career at the University of Pittsburgh next season.

"Since high school, I always knew I wanted to go to the highest level, and Pittsburgh is at that level," Green said. "I love everything about the program. The city is big, and I will have great coaches and teammates. I'm proud of the way we came up from the bottom to the top at South Plains, and it couldn't have been down without my teammates."

The 5-7 guard from Bellville, Texas did all for South Plains during her sophomore stint in Levelland, leading the Lady Texans to their first ever NJCAA No. 1 national ranking and guided SPC to an appearance in the Elite Eight at the NJCAA Women's Basketball National Tournament.

Green, who earlier this year was named the Region V Player of the Year and the Most Valuable Player of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference, as well as a WBCA All-American, was a catalyst on both sides of the ball this season, averaging 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.

Green ranked second in the region with 197 total field goals and fourth in the region with 136 assists. One of the top scorers in the country this season, Green ranked third in the region with 504 total points and ranked third in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference with 17.1 points per game during league play.
