Gabbie Green tabbed as NJCAA First Team All-American

LEVELLAND — South Plains sophomore do-it-all guard Gabbie Green added yet another accolade to her resume on Monday as the 5-7 Bellville, Texas product was named an NJCAA First Team All-American, selected by the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee.

Green, who earlier this year was named the Region V Player of the Year and the Most Valuable Player of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference, as well as a WBCA All-American, led the Lady Texans to the Elite Eight at the NJCAA Women's Basketball National Tournament, as well as the program's first-ever No. 1 national ranking in the NJCAA women's basketball national poll.

Green, who averaged 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game, ranked second in the region with 197 total field goals and fourth in the region with 136 assists. One of the top scorers in the country this season, Green ranked third in the region with 504 total points and ranked third in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference with 17.1 points per game during league play.

A catalyst for the Lady Texans on both ends of the floor, Green scored in double figures 23 times during her sophomore stint, most notably, a 34-point performance in the Lady Texans' 61-55 conference road win over No. 23 Midland on Jan. 31 in which Green finished 14 of 22 from the floor and drained four of eight 3s in the contest.
