LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's basketball teams are set to host Clarendon College Monday on Ameriprise Financial VIP Night at the Texan Dome in their final home game of the season.

The Lady Texans will tip at 5:45 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30. Both games will be streaming live at spctexans.com and Michael Wiiest of KLVT Radio Levelland will call the courtside action with pregame slated for 5:30 p.m.

Monday's games are being sponsored by Matt Carr of Ameriprise Financial of Lubbock. Mr. Carr will be serving all SPC employees brisket tacos beginning at 5:45 p.m., and giving away a $250 cash prize at the halftime of each game (SPC employees only, must be present to win).

Ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA women's basketball national poll, the Lady Texans enter the contest with a 26-2 record including an 11-1 mark in the WJCAC. Averaging over 81 points per game and shooting 49.1 percent from the floor on the year, South Plains has won nine of their last 10 and are 10-0 at the Texan Dome. The Lady Texans can secure at least a share of the conference title with a win on Monday. It would be the Lady Texans first WJCAC championship since 2013.

In their first matchup with Clarendon on Jan. 24, South Plains ousted the Lady Bulldogs 81-46 at the Bulldog Gymnasium in Clarendon. Freshman Sarah Shematsi led the Lady Texans with 12 points, three rebounds and a pair of assists against Clarendon, knocking down 5 of 11 shots from the field in 25 minutes of action. Keke Hunter recorded 11 points and 11 rebounds, sinking 3 of 6 attempts from the hardwood and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line.

Currently 8-20 this season and 1-11 in the conference play, Clarendon has lost five of their last six, most recently a 61-52 defeat to Odessa College on Feb. 21. Averaging just 62 points per game, the Lady Bulldogs are shooting a 37 percent clip from the field and 30.6 percent from the 3-point line this season.

Earning a No. 10 national ranking in the latest NJCAA men's basketball national poll, the Texans have won five of their previous six games and are one game back in the league standings with two games remaining in the regular season. Currently 22-4 on the year and 11-3 in the WJCAC, South Plains is averaging 83.6 points per game and shooting 48.5 percent from the floor.

In their first matchup on Jan. 24, South Plains fell to the Bulldogs 74-72 in the final seconds at the Bulldog Gymnasium. The Texans' Gaige Prim led all scorers with 21 points and nine rebounds, bucketing 9 of 13 attempts from the floor. Sophomore Chris Orlina poured in 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting while Jonah Antonio and Deon Barett each netted eight points for South Plains.

Currently 18-10 on the year and 9-5 in league play, Clarendon holds a one-game lead over Howard College for fourth in the WJCAC. The Bulldogs have won four of their last six despite a 67-64 loss on Thursday at home against Odessa.
