South Plains sophomore sharpshooter Jonah Antonio was named the NJCAA Region V men's basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday for the week of Feb. 3-9.

A 6-5 guard from Perth, Australia, Antonio netted 31 points and six assists a week ago, including 17 points, three boards and a pair of assists in the Texans' 64-55 conference road win over Howard College on Feb. 7. Antonio poured in 16 points in the second half as the Texans rallied from 14 down at the half to clip the Hawks and remain atop the WJCAC standings.

Averaging 12.3 points per game and shooting over 42 percent from the 3-point line, Antonio has scored in double figures 12 times this season including a season-high 24 points against then No. 7-ranked Salt Lake Community College on Dec. 28 in Phoenix.

South Plains will return to the hardwood on Thursday in Hobbs at 7:30 p.m. MST against New Mexico Junior College, before returning home on Monday to take on Western Texas College at 7:30 p.m. on Hockley County School Employees Credit Union Night at the Texan Dome.
