No. 9 Texans host New Mexico Military Institute Monday at the Texan Dome

LEVELLAND — Following a pair of wins in conference play in their last two outings, the No. 9-ranked South Plains College men's basketball team return to the hardwood on Monday when they host New Mexico Military Institute at 6:30 p.m. at the Texan Dome.

Currently 20-3 on the year and 9-2 in league play, South Plains ousted Frank Phillips 111-51 at home on Feb. 4 and clipped Howard College 64-55 on Thursday in Big Spring. The Texans have won three straight in league play and defeated the Broncos 84-61 in their first matchup in Roswell on Jan. 10.

Gaige Prim recorded 14 points and 15 rebounds against NMMI as the Texans shot over 55 percent from the field including a 64.5 percent clip in the second half. Trey Wade netted 12 points and 10 boards for the orange and blue while Deon Barett bucketed a team-high 19 points and five assists, leading all scorers with five 3s, finishing 6 of 8 from the floor and 5 of 7 from behind the arc.

Coming in with a 7-17 record this season and a  2-9 mark in the WJCAC, the Broncos have dropped three straight, most recently an 82-71 defeat at home against Odessa College on Thursday. NMMI is averaging 69.2 points per game on the offensive end, shooting 40.9 percent from the floor and 29.7 percent from the 3-point line. The Broncos are 4-5 in true road games this season and just 5-11 away from home.
