LEVELLAND — Leading the Lady Texans to a pair of top 25 wins a week ago, South Plains sophomore guard Gabbie Green was named the Region V Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Instrumental in helping the Lady Texans earn a No. 1 national ranking and a perfect 9-0 mark in league play, Green scored 22 points and shot over 50 percent from the field in a 73-64 victory over No. 15 Odessa College on Jan. 28. Green followed up with a career-high 34 points on the road at No. 22 Midland College on Jan. 31 as the Lady Texans defeated the Lady Chaparrals 61-55.

Averaging a team-leading 15 points per game and shooting over 52 percent from the field on the year, Green has scored in double figures in eight of her last 10 outings, most recently a 26-point performance against Frank Phillips College on Monday night in Levelland.

Currently 24-1 on the year and winners of 21 straight, the Lady Texans return to the hardwood in Big Spring on Thursday in a 5:45 p.m. tip against Howard College.
