STEPHENVILLE — The South Plains College women's rodeo team punched their ticket to the College National Finals Rodeo on Saturday as they capped off the regular season at the Tarleton State University Rodeo.

The Lady Texans added 60 points to their season total and end the year second overall in the Southwest Region with 1,696 points. Texas Tech won the region with 1,763 points, and Tarleton took third with 1,644 points. The Lady Texans will travel to Casper, Wyoming June 10-16 to compete for the program's first-ever national title.  

"This is what we have been working for and building on for years," South Plains head coach Kerry Doster said. "When it comes down to the final day like this, that just shows how tough this region is and how much it takes to put yourself in position to get out of the region and get to nationals."

Sophomore Chet Boren also inked his ticket to nationals as he finished second in the men's all-around standings with 785 points, and tied for the region title in steer wrestling with 455 points, his second consecutive steer wrestling regional title. Boren finished fourth in steer wrestling in Saturday's finals, turning in a 6.4 in the long round and a 4.6 in the short, ending the event with 80 points for South Plains. Parker Emola and Zack Kirkpatrick also advanced to Saturday's finals as Emola placed sixth overall with 70 points and Kirkpatrick took eighth with 30 points.

Stefan Ramone and Jhett Trenary captured the team roping event title on Saturday night tacking on 170 points for South Plains. The duo turned in the top time in the long round with a 5.7 which they followed up with an 8.2 in the finals, ending the event with a 13.9 average. Jenna Dallyn picked up 60 points for the Lady Texans in team roping as she paired up with Wyatt Christensen to run a 8.1 in the long round and a 10.7 in the finals to notch what would be the final points needed to take over second ahead of Tarleton and send the Lady Texans to nationals.

The Texans end the year sixth in the regional standings and second in the men's team standings at Tarleton with 450 points, just behind regional leader Tarleton State who took first with 520 points. The Lady Texans finished ninth with 60 points, with Texas Tech taking first on the weekend with 235 points.
