South Plains College Rodeo returns to action on Thursday in  Perryton

 LEVELLAND—The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Perryton, TX for the Frank Phillips College Rodeo beginning at 4:00 p.m.

 The Lady Texans enter the weekend ranked first in the Southwest Region with 385 points, led by sophomore barrel racer Alex Odle who currently sits atop of the regional standings with 305 points after two weeks.

Odle won the barrel racing event in week one of the season at the Eastern New Mexico University rodeo and followed up with a second place finish in Vernon at the Vernon College Rodeo on Sept. 30. Odle ran the fastest time in the long round with a 17.10 which she followed up with a run of 17.58 in the short round to finish with a final average of 34.68.

South Plains' Jenna Dallyn continues to make strides and climb the regional standings as she enters the weekend ranked ninth in the region in goat tying and 15th in breakaway roping. Dallyn won the women's all-around title in week one when she placed sixth overall in the breakaway roping event and earned a ninth-place finish in goat tying.

The Texans will look to build off their previous outing in which they placed six athletes into the final round and finished 11th overall.

Freshman Britton Bedke earned a fifth-place finish in the tiedown roping event picking up 60 points in the process. Bedke ran an 11.3 in the long round followed by a run of 9.9 in the short round to finish with an average of 21.2.

The Texans' Chet Boren and Zack Kirkpatrick placed fifth and sixth overall in the steer wrestling event. Boren, the defending Southwest Region champion who currently ranks 11th in the regional standings ran a 7.2 in the long round followed by a 24.7 in the short round to finish the weekend with 60 points. Kirkpatrick, who is currently ranked eighth in the regional standings, ran the top time in the long round with a 5.0 before passing the 30-second mark in the short round to end the weekend with 70 points.

South Plains placed four athletes in the team roping finals as Kody Criswell was paired up with Hayley Danley of Tarleton State. The duo ran a long round time of 7.5 and missed in the short round to place eighth overall. South Plains' Kade Smith paired up with Jeffery Latham of Sul Ross State and earned a ninth-place finish after a long round time of 7.5 before missing in the short round. Boren and Hadley Clower finished 10th overall with their long round time of 7.6, missing in the short round to finish with a 107.6 average.

"We try not to get too high on ourselves because we know we have a long way to go," South Plains head coach Kerry Doster said. "We're just trying to make sure everyone is healthy, and it's a long way to the finals in June. But, we are doing pretty well and we just hope we can continue that way."
