Curtis began his collegiate rodeo career at Howard College where he competed for the Hawks from 2007-2009 before transferring to Tarleton State University where he completed an undergraduate degree in Business Administration.

In 2008, Curtis and teammate Calvin Brevik qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyo., finishing sixth overall.  Curtis again qualified for the prestigious collegiate rodeo final in 2010 with Tarleton.
