CASPER, Wyoming — Competing against the nation’s top rodeo athletes in the finals of the College National Finals Rodeo Saturday night, South Plains freshman Kaytlyn Miller earned a fifth-place national finish in goat tying.

LEVELLAND — For the fourth time in as many years, South Plains College rodeo coach Kerry Doster was named the Western Junior College Athletic Conference Women's Head Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Texans to their fourth consecutive Western Junior College Athletic Conference title.
STEPHENVILLE — For the second time in as many years, the South Plains College women’s rodeo team punched their ticket to the College National Finals Rodeo as they capped off the year with a sixth-place finish Saturday at the Tarleton State University Rodeo.
LEVELLAND — Looking to punch their ticket to the College National Finals Rodeo, the South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams will wrap up their final rodeo of the year this weekend when they travel to Stephenville for the Tarleton State University Rodeo April 25-27.
BIG SPRING — The South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams capped off the Howard College Rodeo Saturday night with the Texans picking up a second place team finish, while the Lady Texans took sixth overall on the weekend.
LEVELLAND — Each sitting third in the Southwest Region with a pair of rodeos remaining, the South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams will travel to Big Spring April 11-13 for the Howard College Rodeo.
After winning the Western Texas College Rodeo last weekend, the Lady Texans head to Big Spring with 1,704.5 points, trailing only Tarleton State (2,356.6), and Weatherford College (1,742.5). The Texans have totaled 2,535 points to date, trailing Tarleton State (3,085), and Clarendon College (2,835) for the top two spots in the men’s division.
SNYDER — The South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams improved their standings in the Southwest Region Saturday as the Lady Texans won the women’s team title and the Texans placed third at the Western Texas College Rodeo.
LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams are set to return to the arena April 4-6 in Snyder at the Western Texas College Rodeo, each sitting near the top of the Southwest Region Standings with three rodeos remaining.
Following another solid outing in Sweetwater on March 24, the Lady Texans are currently third in the region with 1,324.5 points, trailing Tarleton State (2,245) and Weatherford College (1,505). The Texans are currently fourth with 2,155 points, as Clarendon (2,470), Weatherford (2,285), and Tarleton (2,265) make up the top three to date.
SWEETWATER — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams continued their push for a Southwest Region title Saturday, capturing three event titles at the Ranger College Rodeo.
The Lady Texans placed third on the weekend with 162 points, trailing only Tarleton State (310), and Weatherford College (180). The Texans finished fourth overall with 225 points, as Tarleton State (595), Weatherford College (495), and Western Texas College (310) made up the top three spots.
LEVELLAND — Looking to stay atop the Southwest Region standings, the South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams will return to the arena March 21-23 in Sweetwater at the Ranger College Rodeo.
ODESSA — The South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams opened their first rodeo of the spring semester in prime fashion over the weekend, as the Texans placed first overall and the Lady Texans took second at the 35th Annual Odessa College Rodeo at the Ector County Coliseum.
The Texans racked up 585 points to move into second place in the Southwest Region with 1930 points on the year, trailing only Clarendon College who has garnered 2270 points after six rodeos. The Lady Texans tallied 295 points in Odessa and currently sit in third in the region with 1167.5 points with four rodeos remaining.
SAN ANTONIO — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams recently competed at the San Antonio College Rodeo Shootout at the Expo Hall on the Freeman Coliseum Grounds, turning in several top finishes against a field of the nation's top college programs.
The Western Junior College Athletic Conference has announced the All-Academic Team for the Fall 2018 semester, with 36 athletes from South Plains College earning academic honors.
The WJCAC All-Academic Team is an inclusive honor for all sports, recognizing student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.25 (2nd team) to a 3.64 – 4.0 (1st team).

LEVELLAND — South Plains College recently hosted the 2018 Rink Bownds Memorial Rodeo September 14-15 at the Mallet Event Center which proved to be a huge success for the community and everyone who competed.
Hosted in honor of cowboy Rink Bownds, the rodeo earned the UPRA New Rodeo of the Year, as well as the UFR High Paying Rodeo on Tuesday. Some 300 plus contestants traveled from across the country to compete in what has been deemed one of the top rodeos in the country this year.
LUBBOCK — Kaytlyn Miller won the women’s all-around title and the South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams each placed inside the top five over the weekend at the Texas Tech University Rodeo at the Texas Tech Equestrian Center.
LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams return to the arena Oct. 25-27 in Lubbock at the Texas Tech Rodeo at the Texas Tech Equestrian Center.
South Plains enters the weekend ranked in the top five in the men’s and women’s divisions, as the Lady Texans currently sit in third place overall with 662.50 points, trailing only Weatherford College (710), and Tarleton State (1,425). The Texans currently rank fourth in the Southwest Region with 1,085 points, with Cisco College (1,290), Tarleton State (1,325), and Clarendon College (1,590) holding the top three spots.
AMARILLO — South Plains freshman Cooper Bennett led the Texans to a top-five finish over the weekend as he captured his second bareback riding event title Saturday night at the West Texas A&M University Rodeo.
Bennett won the long round with a score of 79, which he followed up with a 74 in the finals, capping the event with 180 points for the Texans who finished fifth overall with 250 points. Bennett also won the bareback event title in week one at the Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo.
VERNON — Kaytlyn Miller won the goat tying event title and Kody Criswell finished second in breakaway roping as the South Plains College women’s rodeo team won the women’s team title on Saturday night at the Vernon College Rodeo with 337.5 points.
LEVELLAND — A week after placing 10 contestants in the finals of the Sul Ross State University Rodeo, the South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams return to the arena this weekend at the Vernon College Rodeo Oct. 4-6.
ALPINE — The South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams placed a combined 10 athletes in the finals of the Sul Ross State University Rodeo Saturday night in their second rodeo of the season.

South Plains qualified eight for the finals a week ago at the Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo in Portales, bringing home an event title in the bareback riding event as freshman Cooper Bennett used a score of 74 in the short round to take first overall. The Texans finished fifth on the weekend with 260 team points.
PORTALES — The South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams capped off their first rodeo of the season on Saturday as they combined to place eight competitors in the finals of the Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo at the Lewis Cooper Rodeo Arena.
In his first rodeo for South Plains, freshman Cooper Bennett used a score of 74 in the finals to win the bareback riding event. Bennett also scored a 74 in the long round, picking up 160 points for the Texans who finished fifth overall over the weekend with 260 points.
LEVELLAND — Following one of the most successful seasons in program history, the South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams will kick off their 2018 campaign this weekend at the Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo Sept. 20-22 in Portales at the Lewis Cooper Rodeo Arena.
The South Plains College men’s and women’s rodeo teams were well represented over the weekend at the 2018 Rink Bownds Memorial Rodeo held at the Mallet Event Center in a UPRA sanctioned rodeo.
LEVELLAND — The South Plains College Rink Bownds Memorial Rodeo continues on Saturday in Levelland at the Mallet Event Center beginning at 9 a.m.
South Plains will be well represented in the morning slack and the 7 p.m. performance as the Texans and Lady Texans compete against some of the nation's best in the UPRA sanctioned rodeo. Doors will open one hour prior to the rodeo and tickets can be purchased at the front entrance of the Mallet Event Center.
