LEVELLAND — After capturing the Region V title Saturday in Abilene, the South Plains College women's basketball team earned a No. 2 seed to the Women's Basketball National Tournament March 17-21 in Lubbock at the Rip Griffin Center.
The 24-team bracket was released Monday with the Lady Texans earning a first-round bye and will play the winner of No. 18 Salt Lake and No. 15 Butler at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The tournament will stream live via NJCAA TV and the complete bracket can be found at the bottom of the page.
South Plains has amassed a 32-1 record to date, winning the Western Junior College Athletic Conference title and hold 11 top 25 wins. South Plains has won six straight dating back to Feb. 20 including a 64-41 win over Midland College in the region tournament semifinals, and bested Collin County 74-64 in the region title game.
Should the Lady Texans come out victorious on Wednesday, they will play at 5 p.m. on Thursday and will await the winner of game 13, who will see No. 7 Western Nebraska take on the winner of No. 10 Florida Southwestern vs. No. 23 Murray State. South Plains is one of three teams to represent the WJCAC at the National Tournament, with Odessa College earning a No. 14 seed, and New Mexico Junior College earning the No. 20 seed.
