Lady Texan rodeo sit atop Southwest Region after four rodeos

LEVELLAND — With four rodeos complete, the South Plains College women's rodeo team sits atop the Southwest Region standings with a single rodeo remaining in the fall season.

The Lady Texans have accumulated 660 points, and hold a 15 point lead over defending region champion Tarleton State, who is currently second with 645 points. Texas Tech sits in the third with 625 points, followed by Sul Ross State with 462.50 points, and Eastern New Mexico University with 340 points.

Sophomore Kaytlyn Miller, the defending Southwest Region Women's All-Around Champion has been the top point scorer for the Lady Texans this season, racking up 270 points in goat tying which is second-best in the region to date behind Sul Ross' Timmi Hutchings who has tallied 277.5 points.

The Lady Texans have garnered 240 points in barrel racing thanks to Clara Barrington and Carly Christian who both rank in the top 15 in the region. Barrington is currently seventh with 140 points, while Christian is 11th with 100 points. Barrington also ranks 12th in breakaway roping, posting 95 points after four rodeos.

Sophomore Elle Eagles ranks in the top 15 in the region in both breakaway roping and goat tying, totaling 170 points for South Plains. Eagles is currently seventh in the region in breakaway roping with 110 points, and 14th in the region in goat tying with 60 points.

The Lady Texans will look to add to their region lead total when they return to arena Oct. 31- Nov. 2 at the Texas Tech University Rodeo at the South Plains Fairgrounds.
