Kaytlyn Miller earns 5th place national finish Saturday at College National Finals Rodeo

CASPER, Wyoming — Competing against the nation's top rodeo athletes in the finals of the College National Finals Rodeo Saturday night, South Plains freshman Kaytlyn Miller earned a fifth-place national finish in goat tying.

Miller, who qualified for the finals after a 12th place finish in the first three runs, turned in a time of 6.2 in the finals, capping the event with a 26.4 average and 72.5 points for South Plains. The Lady Texans end the year with a 14th place team finish, racking up 172.5 points at the CNFR.

Miller, one of four Lady Texans competing at the CNFR, qualified for the goat tying finals after a 12th place finish following the first three rounds of the event. Miller clocked a 7.3 in her first run, before turning in a 6.3 in the second round, and a 6.6 on Friday night, totaling a 20.1 average. Miller also competed in breakaway roping for the Lady Texans, finishing 27thnationally after running a 12.2, 3.1 and a no time in her final run.

Sophomore Kody Criswell earned a 29th place national finish in breakaway roping for the Lady Texans, including a second place finish in the third round of the event, clocking a 2.2 and tallied 70 points. Freshman Elle Eagles tacked on 30 points in goat tying, no timing in her first run, before posting a  6.1 in the second run, and a 6.7 in the third round, capping the event with a 12.8 average.

The Texans were represented by three cowboys in team roping, including freshman Hayden Cloward who finished 15th nationally with 55 points. Cloward ran a 6.7 in the opening round, no timed in the second and capped the week with a 12.0 in his third run to end with an 18.7 average. Freshman Grady Quam finished 32nd nationally, running a 7.7 in his first round and no timed in the final two rounds, picking up 25 points. Hadley Cloward placed 34th, clocking a 10.3 in the first round and no timed in the final two rounds.
