South Plains College rodeo travels to Big Spring April 11-13 for Howard College Rodeo

LEVELLAND — Each sitting third in the Southwest Region with a pair of rodeos remaining, the South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams will travel to Big Spring April 11-13 for the Howard College Rodeo.

After winning the Western Texas College Rodeo last weekend, the Lady Texans head to Big Spring with 1,704.5 points, trailing only Tarleton State (2,356.6), and Weatherford College (1,742.5). The Texans have totaled 2,535 points to date, trailing Tarleton State (3,085), and Clarendon College (2,835) for the top two spots in the men's division.

Freshman Kaytlyn Miller won the women's all-around title in Snyder after racking up 380 points for the Lady Texans and currently sits atop the region women's all-around standings. Miller placed first in goat tying, running a 7.1 in the long round, which she followed up with a 6.8 in the finals, ending the event with a 13.9 average and 170 points. Miller followed up with a third-place finish in barrel racing, tacking on 140 points for the Lady Texans, before ending the weekend with a sixth-place finish in breakaway roping, picking up 70 points.

The Texans placed four ropers in the team roping finals a week ago, including Grady Quam who paired up with Cisco's Paden Bray as the duo ran a 6.3 in the long round and a 5.8 in the finals, capping the event with a 12.1 average, good enough for second overall and 115 points. South Plains sophomore Stefan Ramone joined up with Tarleton State cowboy Jhett Trenary, running a 5.9 in the long round and a 6.2 in the finals, ending with a 12.1 average to tie for second and tack on 135 points.

Ramone added 80 more points for the Texans in tiedown roping, running an 8.1 in the long round and a 12.6 in the finals to take fifth overall. Kenline earned a fifth-place finish in steer wrestling with 35 points after running a 5.6 in the long round 14.7 in the finals, while Dawson Stewart placed eighth with a 19.0 average, tacking on 50 points for the Texans.

Following the trip to Howard, South Plains will have a week off before closing out the year in Stephenville at the Tarleton State University Rodeo April 25-27.
