South Plains College rodeo returns to action April 4-6 in Snyder

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams are set to return to the arena April 4-6 in Snyder at the Western Texas College Rodeo, each sitting near the top of the Southwest Region Standings with three rodeos remaining.

Following another solid outing in Sweetwater on March 24, the Lady Texans are currently third in the region with 1,324.5 points, trailing Tarleton State (2,245) and Weatherford College (1,505). The Texans are currently fourth with 2,155 points, as Clarendon (2,470), Weatherford (2,285), and Tarleton (2,265) make up the top three to date. 

Action will get underway on Thursday night at the Coliseum and Rodeo Grounds beginning with bull riding at 7 p.m. Following the trip to Snyder, South Plains will return to the saddle April 11-13 in Big Soring for the Howard College Rodeo, followed by a trip to Stephenville to close out the season at the Tarleton State University Rodeo April 25-27.

In their last outing at the Ranger College Rodeo, the Lady Texans placed third with 162 points, trailing only Tarleton State (310), and Weatherford College (180). The Texans finished fourth overall with 225 points, as Tarleton State (595), Weatherford College (495), and Western Texas College (310) made up the top three spots.

Freshman Elle Eagles won the goat tying event for the Lady Texans as the Florence, Colorado native ran a 7.6 in the long round and a 6.7 in the finals, finishing with an overall average of 14.3 and 150 points for South Plains.

The Texans placed a pair of cowboys in the steer wrestling finals, including freshman Logan Wiseman who won the event with 123.3 points. Wiseman turned in a time of 4.7 in the long round and followed up with a 3.9 in the finals to finish with an 8.6 overall average. Dawson Stewart wrestled his way to a third-place finish, running a 4.9 in the long round and a 4.6 in the finals, tacking on 80 points for South Plains.

Sophomore Stefan Ramone teamed up with former Texan and current Tarleton State cowboy Jhett Trenary in team roping, as the duo won the event with a 12.4 average. The pair ran a 6.3 in the long round and a 6.1 in the finals, tallying 120 points in the event.

The Texans picked up another 20 points in team roping as Colton McCarley teamed up with Texas Tech's Cameron McCarley as the duo ran a 7.3 in the long round and an 11.7 in the finals, capping the event with a 19.0 average.

McCarley would then represent South Plains as one of three Texans in the tiedown roping finals on Saturday night. McCarley placed fifth overall, running a 10.0 in the long round and a 9.6 in the finals, ending with a 19.6 average and 55 points.

Hayden Cloward finished sixth in tiedown roping for the Texans, running a 10.1 in the long round, followed by a 12.9 in the finals, clocking a 23.0 average and totaled 20 points. South Plains' Britton Bedke rounded out the trio, placing seventh, running the fastest time in the long round with a 9.5, before missing in the finals to cap the event with a 109.5 average and 50 points.
