Orlina signs with McNeese State, Prim headed to Missouri State

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's basketball program added two more players to their list of athletes who move on to the Div. I level as sophomores Chris Orlina and Gaige Prim inked their National Letter of Intent on Wednesday.

Orlina, who played an instrumental role in helping the Texans capture the 2018 NJCAA Men's Basketball National Championships last season signed with McNeese State University. A 6-foot-7 forward from Newport News, Virginia, Orlina is averaging 11 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season as the Texans currently sit at 4-0 on the year and are ranked second in the NJCAA.

As a freshman, Orlina average 8.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, netting double-digit scoring figures in 12 of the final 13 games including 19 against No. 12 Connors State and 17 against Southern Idaho in the national title game. Orlina got off to a blistering start in 2018 as he scored in double figures in the Texans' first two games including a career-high 25 points on Nov. 4 in Dallas.

Leading the Texans in scoring with 23.8 points per game, 6-foot-9 big man Gaige Prim inked his national letter of intent to Missouri State Wednesday afternoon. A transfer from West Texas A&M University, Prim leads the country with 15.5 rebounds per game and ranks fifth in the NJCAA with 62 total rebounds.

Prim has recorded four straight double-doubles for the Texans including a 31-point, 11 rebound performance in the Texans' 79-76 victory over Seward College on Nov. 9 in Liberal. Prim bucketed 28 points and 18 boards in his first outing of the season on Nov. 3 against Jacksonville College and finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds in South Plains' 108-69 victory over Dodge City on Nov. 10.
