LUBBOCK — Kaytlyn Miller won the women's all-around title and the South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams each placed inside the top five over the weekend at the Texas Tech University Rodeo at the Texas Tech Equestrian Center.

Miller tallied 115 points in goat tying as she placed third after running a 6.8 in the long round and a 6.6 in the finals to cap the event with a 13.4 average. Miller would then ride to a fifth-place finish in barrel racing Saturday night as the Dammeron Valley, Utah native clocked a 16.02 in the long round which she followed up with a 16.25 in the finals, tallying 70 points for the Lady Texans.

Miller would tack on 10 more points in the breakaway roping event thanks to a 2.4 run in the long round and a no time in the finals, leading the Lady Texans to a third place overall finish with 195 points.

"Overall I was pleased with both our men's and women's teams this weekend and throughout the season to this point," South Plains head coach Kerry Doster said. "This group has worked hard every day, and the time and effort they've been putting in is showing up in the arena."  

South Plains sophomore Kody Criswell joined Miller in Saturday night's barrel racing finals, ending the weekend with a seventh place overall finish. Criswell turned in a time of 16.14 in the long round before clocking a 16.30 in the finals, picking up 15 points for the Lady Texans with a 32.44 overall average.

The Texans placed five cowboys in the finals as they wrapped up their final rodeo of the fall season with 255 points and a fourth-place overall team finish. After turning in the top score in the long round (78) in bareback riding, sophomore standout Cooper Bennett rode his way to a sixth place overall finish with a score of 68 in the finals and an overall average of 146.

Happy, Texas native Colton McCarley brought home a sixth-place finish in tiedown roping as the freshman ran an 8.2 in the long round and a 12.9 in the finals to finish with a 21.1 average and 70 points. South Plains sophomore Britton Bedke wrestled his way to a fourth place overall finish in steer wrestling, running a 5.0 in the long round which he followed up with a 4.7 in the finals, finishing with a 9.7 average and 65 points for the Texans.

In the team roping event, freshman Grady Quam paired up with Cisco's Paden Bray as the duo rode their way to a fourth place overall finish. Quam and Bray ran the fastest time in the long round with a 5.4 which they followed up with an 11.6 in the finals to end the event with 120 points. Sophomore Stefan Ramone paired up with former Texan standout and current Tarleton State cowboy Jhett Trenary as the duo ran a 6.2 in the long round but missed in the finals, finishing seventh overall with 30 points.

South Plains will return to action on Feb. 22 when they travel to Odessa for the Odessa College Rodeo, followed by a trip to Sweetwater for the Ranger College Rodeo March 22-24.
