South Plains rodeo returns to action Oct. 11-13 at West Texas A&M Rodeo

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams return to action Oct. 11-13 in Amarillo at the West Texas A&M Rodeo.

With three rodeos complete, the Lady Texans currently rank third in the Southwest Region with 527.50 points after capturing the women's team title a week ago in Vernon, trailing only Weatherford College and Tarleton State. The Texans come into the weekend ranked fifth in the region with 835 points, with Clarendon College, Tarleton State, Western Texas College, and Cisco holding the top four spots.

Kaytlyn Miller led the Lady Texans a week ago as she won the goat tying event title with 175 points thanks to a run of 7.2 in the long round and a 7.3 in the finals, finishing with an overall average of 14.5. Kody Criswell finished second in breakaway, tacking on 120 points for the Lady Texans, turning in a time of 2.4 in the long round and a 3.1 in the finals, finishing with a 5.50 overall average. South Plains' Elle Eagles also earned a spot in last week's goat tying finals, placing fifth overall with 42.5 points. Eagles clocked a 7.7 in the long round and an 8.7 in the finals, finishing with a 16.4 average.

The Texans brought home an event title in tiedown roping as Happy, Texas native Colton McCarley placed first overall with 120 points. McCarley finished with a time of 10.0 in the long round before turning in a time of 8.3 in the finals, ending the event with an overall average time of 18.3

The Texans, who finished fourth on the weekend with 315 points, qualified four for the team roping finals Saturday night. South Plains' Grady Quam teamed up with Paden Bray of Cisco College as the pair tied for second thanks to a time of 7.1 in the long round and a 6.4 in the finals, finishing with a 13.5 average and 105 points.

Quam and Bray tied for second with South Plains' Hadley and Hayden Cloward who ran a 7.0 in the long round and a 6.5 in the finals, capping the weekend with 105 points and a 13.5 overall average. South Plains' Stefan Ramone also qualified for the team roping finals, pairing up with former Texan and current Tarleton State University cowboy Jhett Trenary. The two qualified for the finals with a time of 7.5 in the long round but missed in the finals.

A freshman from Penrose, Colorado, South Plains' Logan Kenline tallied 55 points for the Texans in Steer Wrestling. Kenline turned in a time of 4.2 in the long round, which he followed up with a 5.3 in the finals, ending the event with a 10.1 average.
