South Plains cross country to host South Plains College Open Saturday in Levelland

The South Plains College men's and women's cross country teams return to the course on Saturday on their home turf at Brashear Lake in Levelland for the South Plains College Open.

The women's 5k will get underway at 10:45 a.m., followed by the men's 8k at 11:15 a.m. Weather permitting, the meet will be streaming live at spctexans.com and can also be accessed at the link below.

Ranked third in the latest NJCAA national polls, the Texans are coming off a stellar performance in Hobbs a week ago where sophomore Andrew Bosquez led the Texans to a first place overall finish. For his efforts, Bosquez was named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week as the Texans placed four runners in the top seven and finished with a team average of 22:13.04.

South Plains' Filmon Beyene posted a time of 21:59.76, good enough for fifth, while freshman Japhet Toroitich took sixth with a 22:12.43, and Jesse Madrid placed seventh with a time of 22:18.39.

The Lady Texans, who enter the weekend ranked 10th in the national polls, earned a third place overall finish in Hobbs with a team average of 20:29.84. South Plains was led by freshman Gladys Jemaiyo who clocked a final time of 18:03.75, placing second amongst 82 runners.

Freshman Dorcus Ewoi earned a top 10 finish as she crossed the line at 19:12.79 to take seventh, while Plains, Texas native Angela Rodriguez placed 18th overall with a time of 20:42.55.
