The South Plains College men's and women's rodeo teams were well represented over the weekend at the 2018 Rink Bownds Memorial Rodeo held at the Mallet Event Center in a UPRA sanctioned rodeo.
South Plains Cooper Bennett, a freshman from Roosevelt, Utah won the bareback riding event with a final score of 75, cashing in with $1,030 in total earnings. Sophomore Kody Criswell rode to a third-place finish in barrel racing with a time of 17.339, taking home $664. Criswell also placed sixth overall in breakaway roping with a time of 2.54, totaling $468 for the Mason, Texas native.
Former South Plains two-time College National Finalist Chet Boren had himself a weekend, placing second in steer wrestling totaling $646 for the Vernal, Utah native. Boren also teamed up with current South Plains assistant rodeo coach K.C. Curtis in team roping as the duo placed second with a time of 4.710, cashing in with $1,362.
Current cowboy for the Texans Stefan Ramone teamed up with former South Plains cowboy Jhett Trenary in team roping as the pair earned a fifth-place finish, banking $544 on the weekend. Two former standouts for the Lady Texans in Jenna Dallyn and Lariat Larner were back in Levelland to compete in goat tying, as Dallyn finished first overall while Larner took second.
