South Plains rodeo earns top 10 national finishes Saturday at College National Finals Rodeo

CASPER, Wyoming — On the final day of the 2018 college rodeo season, South Plains College was well represented as three athletes earned top 10 national honors at the College National Finals Rodeo Saturday night.

In his final stand for the Texans, South Plains' Chet Boren finished his career at South Plains with a seventh place national finish in steer wrestling. A sophomore from Vernal, Utah, Boren turned in a final time of 5.9 in Saturday's finals which consisted of the top 12 collegiate steer wrestlers in the country.

A sophomore from Nanton Toliro, Canada, Jenna Dallyn capped off her career with the Lady Texans with a third place national finish, tallying 140 points in goat tying after clocking a 6.4 in the finals. Dallyn remained consistent throughout the week, entering the finals with the third-best overall average including a time of 6.5 in her second and third runs.

Joining Dallyn in the finals Saturday night was teammate Alex Odle who proved to be one of the top collegiate barrel racers in the country. Following a pair of 14.55 runs in her second and third runs to qualify for the finals, Odle capped her career with the Lady Texans with a fifth place national finish with a time of 14.42 in the finals, ending the week with an average of 58.45 and 100 points.
