Lady Texans top Midland 57-50, clinch No. 3 seed to Region V Tournament

LEVELLAND — The South Plains College women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 57-50 over Midland Thursday night at the Texan Dome to secure a bid to the Region V Tournament.

With the win, South Plains locked down the No. 3 seed from the west and will take on the No. 2 seed from the north on Wednesday, March 13 at 3 p.m. in Weatherford. The full tournament bracket will be released on Friday, March 8.

Brendha Schwartz led South Plains with 11 points and two boards over 30 minutes, while Isabella Jaramillo and Yendrie Acosta each netted nine points. Bella Belong totaled eight points and nine boards, while Jennifer Silva finished with eight points and five rebounds.

Luisa Anderegg and Dee Henderson led Midland with 12 points apiece, while Riley Burd and Savana Goodson each netted seven points. Midland shot a 43.8 percent clip in the contest but was just 2 of 15 from the 3-point line.
