Lady Texans top Howard 59-44 Thursday in Big Spring

BIG SPRING — The South Plains College women's basketball team picked up a crucial conference road win Thursday, topping Howard College 59-44 at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.

The Lady Texans improve to 13-14 on the season and 6-5 in league play and will be on the road again next Thursday when they travel to Borger for a 5:45 p.m. against Frank Phillips.

South Plains shot 46.3 percent from the field, led by Bella Belong who finished with a team-high 14 points over 21 minutes. Belong dropped in six of nine shots from the field, while Jennifer Silva tallied 10 points and eight boards over 25 minutes.

Sahir Alizada poured in nine points and snagged four rebounds, while Yendrie Acosta totaled nine points and three assists in 29 minutes. Isabella Jaramillo recorded eight points, four rebounds, and three assists coming off the bench for South Plains, as Howard shot just 29.4 percent from the floor and was three of 17 from the 3-point line.
