Lady Texans pummel Clarendon 67-44 Thursday

LEVELLAND — Five players scored in double figures as the South Plains College women's basketball team pummeled Clarendon College 67-44 Thursday night at the Texan Dome.

The Lady Texans will look to stay in the win column come Monday when they host Howard at 5:45 p.m. at the Texan Dome. The contest will stream live at scptexans.com and admission to the game is free.

"I thought we started the game really well on both ends of the floor," South Plains head coach Ara Baten said. "That kind of catapulted us into a lead, and I thought we played well for the most part. I'm really proud of how our kids played together, and more for each other and less for themselves. If we can play the way we did tonight, we can have a good basketball team. Bella Belong gave us a huge lift with her energy and effort, and that helps us out tonight."

Isabella Jaramillo finished with 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists for South Plains, connecting on four of eight shots from the field and was four of seven from distance. Sahir Alizada netted 12 points and six boards while Brendha Schwartz chipped in 12 points and snagged four rebounds coming off the bench for South Plains.

Jennifer Silva finished with 11 points and eight rebounds while Bella Belong tallied 10 points and 10 boards over 24 minutes. South Plains shot 39.7 percent from the field and bucketed eight 3s in the contest.

"I thought our defensive effort was really good tonight," Baten said. They got loose a couple of times, but not more than a couple of times. Our rotations were really good, and they didn't have many offensive rebounds, and they are a good rebounding team offensively. Our kids compete hard, they work hard, and they haven't seen the ball go in and bounce their way in several games, and they get frustrated. We found a way to get some easier baskets, and I'm really proud of the way they came together, and it was good to finally play at home."
