Lady Texans drop conference opener 68-54 Monday in Hobbs

HOBBS — The South Plains College women's basketball team dropped its conference opener Monday night, falling to New Mexico Junior College 68-54 at the Caster Activity Center at Ron Black Court.

South Plains will be off on Thursday and is slated to travel to Snyder to take on Western Texas College on Jan. 15 at 5:45 p.m. The contest will stream live at spctexans.com.

Yendrie Acosta led South Plains with 13 points over 27 minutes, dropping in three of 10 shots from the field and was six of seven from the free throw line. Jennifer Silva netted nine points in 29 minutes, while Isabella Jaramillo finished with nine points and three assists.

Chisom Oguego and Bella Belong each chipped in eight points as the Lady Texans shot 27.3 percent from the floor and 25.9 percent from distance.

Filipa Calisto led New Mexico with a game-high 18 points over 33 minutes, while Pania Davis poured in 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. The Lady Thunderbirds shot 50 percent from the field but were just two of 14 from the 3-point line.
