Lady Texans win fourth straight, knock off No. 24 Clarendon 70-58 Monday at the Texan Dome

LEVELLAND — Jennifer Silva and Matilda Soderlund each recorded a double-double Monday as the South Plains College women's basketball team knocked off No. 24 Clarendon College 70-58 at the Texan Dome.

The Lady Texans have now won four straight, improving to 10-7 on the season and 4-0 in the WJCAC and will be on the road Thursday in Snyder to take on Western Texas at 5:45 p.m. The contest will stream live at spctexans.com and can be heard locally on KLVT Radio AM1230.

"Clarendon is really good offensively, and I thought for the most part we played well on the defensive end," South Plains College head coach Ara Baten said. "We forced them to hit some tough shots, and they did, but overall we played well. Jennifer played well for us tonight and stepped up for us. We have to have that kind of production from that post position the rest of the way."

Silva finished with a season-high 17 points and 15 boards, connecting on seven of 13 shots from the field and also recorded a season-high six blocked shots. Soderlund scored in double figures for the third straight contest, dropping in 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds over 34 minutes.

"We executed our plan for the third game in a row defensively, and I want to see us carry that over and start playing better offensively," Baten said. "Overall, I like where we are at. I think we have a lot of room to grow, but for the most part, I like where we're at."

Daiysha Brown finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists for South Plains, while Kimora Daly chipped in six points coming off the bench. South Plains forced 11 turnovers resulting in 13 points on the offensive end and netted 14 points on second-chance opportunities.

Clarendon, who ranked second in the country coming into the contest averaging just over 93 points per game, shot just 29.5 percent from the field. South Plains shot a 44.3 percent clip from the floor and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 25-14 in the final 10 minutes.
