Ivanova nets 17 points as Lady Texans top Western Texas 57-51 in Snyder

SNYDER — Viktoria Ivanova tied her season-high with 17 points as the South Plains College women's basketball team outlasted Western Texas 57-51 Thursday at Invenergy Court.

The win pushes the Lady Texans to 15-8 on the season and 9-3 in league play as they look forward to Monday night when they host Odessa College at 5:45 p.m. at the Texan Dome. South Plains will then close out the regular season on Feb. 24 against Midland at 5:45 p.m. at the Dome.

SPC shot 37 percent from the floor and knocked down 8 3s in the contest, shooting 50 percent from distance. Ivanova dropped in 6 of 11 shots from the floor and was 3 of 5 from 3 over 37 minutes. Sophomore Ashala Moseberry poured in 14 points and snagged three rebounds, connecting on 5 of 11 attempts over 38 minutes.

Raija Todd netted eight points and handed out three assists for South Plains, while Vitoria Carvallho scored two points and snagged a game-high 10 boards for the Lady Texans. South Plains won the battle on the glass as they outrebounded Western Texas 35-23, leading to eight points inside the paint and 13 points on second-chance opportunities.

SPC forced 15 turnovers in the contest resulting in 12 points on the offensive end and received 12 points from their bench while forcing Western Texas to shoot 36 percent from the field in the contest.
