Lady Texans fall to #9 New Mexico Junior College 52-46 Thursday in Hobbs

HOBBS — The South Plains College women's basketball team dropped a conference road matchup to #9 New Mexico Junior College 52-46 on Thursday night at Ron Black Court at the Caster Activity Center.

South Plains moves to 14-7 on the season and 8-2 in the WJCAC as they look to get back in the win column on Monday when they host Clarendon College at the Texan Dome at 5:45 p.m. 

A defensive battle throughout, the Lady Texans shot just 25.7 percent from the floor and 19 percent from distance, while the Lady Thunderbirds shot a 37.3 percent clip from the field and 36.4 percent from the 3-point line.

An interior battle for 40 minutes, South Plains won the battle on the glass 40-37 while the Lady Thunderbirds held a 24-16 advantage with points inside the paint. SPC dropped in 15 points on second-chance opportunities and was led on the offensive end by sophomore Ashala Moseberry who finished with a team-high 11 points and 11 rebounds over 37 minutes.

Martyna Czescik provided nine points and eight boards coming off the bench for the Lady Texans while Raija Todd poured in eight points and dished out a pair of assists over 33 minutes.

Cabria Lewis led New Mexico Junior College with 14 points and three boards, knocking down 5 of 9 shots coming off the bench. Delma Zita chipped in 11 points, grabbed five boards, and picked four steals, while Danna Grenald finished with seven points and six boards.
