BORGER — Three players netted double figures on the offensive end as No. 5 South Plains College trounced Frank Phillips 74-60 Thursday night at the Borger Community Activity Center.

The Lady Texans improve to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference and will return home on Monday to take on Howard College at 5:45 p.m. at the Texan Dome. Fans are welcome to attend, and admission is free.

"We have some things we have to continue to improve on, but we're getting better," South Plains head coach Ara Baten said. "The kids are playing hard and made some plays at the end tonight to win the game. We had a tough first half and overcame some adversity in this one."

Deadlocked at 34 at the midway point, South Plains would use a 12-0 run beginning with just under two minutes to play in the third and was capped off by a layup from Viktoria Ivanova with 7:14 left in the contest to put the Lady Texans up 62-48.

South Plains continued to find success on the offensive end in the final stretch as Jordan Brown would push the Lady Texans' lead to 20, 71-51 on a jumper with 2:39 to play. Frank Phillip's Alexys Grice knocked down a free throw with 1:30 remaining to bring the contest to 74-58. It wouldn't be enough as South Plains held the lead in the final 90 seconds for their third consecutive win.

"We did a good job defensively," Baten said. "We tested shots and rebounded the ball which led to transition baskets. You take what the defense gives you and I think our kids did that pretty well tonight. We have talented players inside and outside, and our kids on the perimeter made some plays for us."

Brown led South Plains offensively, pouring in 14 points on 7 of 13 shooting over 30 minutes. Debora Reis recorded her fifth consecutive double-double, chipping in 12 points to go along with 18 rebounds over 29 minutes.

Sophomore Grace Hunter tallied 10 points and six rebounds for South Plains while Ewa Kielar, Denitsa Petrova, Ka'Lia Smith, and Ivanova each scored eight points. South Plains was lights out with the rock, shooting a 58.9 percent clip from the floor including a 42.8 percent mark from the 3-point line.
