SNYDER — The top-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team continued to roll Monday night as the ousted Western Texas College 86-51, placing five players in double figures on the offensive end.

South Plains improves to 25-0 on the season and 9-0 in the WJCAC and will return home on Thursday to take on Clarendon College at 5:45 p.m. on Think Pink night at the Texan Dome sponsored by Covenant Hospital of Levelland.

Sophomore Sarah Shematsi led the Lady Texans with the rock as the LSU signee chipped in 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds over 31 minutes. Asia McCoy poured in 15 boards and corralled eight rebounds, five on the offensive end as South Plains shot a 46.4 percent clip from the floor and knocked down seven 3s.

Ruth Koang went off for 14 points and five rebounds while also dishing out a season-high five assists and swatted two shots over 23 minutes. Ka'Lia Smith provided 11 points and five rebounds coming off the bench, shooting 4 of 10 from the field while Johanna Teder poured in 10 points, snagged four boards and handed out three assists over 32 minutes.

Coming in as the top-ranked defense in the country in points per game allowed, South Plains pestered the Lady Westerners on the offensive end as they shot just 30.2 percent from the floor and were 5 of 23 from distance. South Plains won the battle on the glass 48-39 and recorded 44 points inside the paint while giving up just 19 points inside.

South Pains forced Western Texas into 19 turnovers resulting in 21 points on the offensive end of the floor and received 22 points from their bench while tallying 15 points on second-chance opportunities. Currently holding a two-game lead and sitting atop the WJCAC, South Plains closed out a four-game road stint on Monday as they return home Thursday for the first time since Jan. 20.

Following the matchup with the Lady Bulldogs, South Plains will be off on Monday before traveling to Hobbs for a showdown with New Mexico Junior College, followed by a trip to Midland on Feb. 20.
