#2 Lady Texans rally for 68-63 victory over Bismarck State College Monday in Phoenix

PHOENIX, Arizona — The second-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team battled back from a one-point first half deficit to outlast Bismarck State College 68-63 Monday in their final game of the Phoenix College Classic.

With the win, South Plains improves to 17-0 and will wrap up their road trip on Tuesday against Mesa Community College at 12 p.m. MST at Theo Heap Gymnasium in Mesa. 

Freshman Ka'Lia Smith led the Lady Texans on the offensive end, dropping in 16 points on 8 of 11 attempts and snagged seven rebounds in the contest. Asia McCoy chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds, seven coming on the offensive end as she finished 5 of 6 from the floor and was 3 of 5 from the free throw line.

LSU signee Sarah Shematsi bucketed 15 points and seven rebounds, connecting on 5 of 15 attempts and was 4-for-12 from the 3-point line while also dishing out three assists. Ashala Moseberry knocked down 3 of 4 shots from the floor and was 2 of 3 from distance, netting eight points, four rebounds and four assists for South Plains.

Johanna Teder poured in six points, handed out three assists, and grabbed two rebounds for South Plains who shot 45 percent from the field and snagged 13 turnovers against the Mystics. Sophomore Ruth Koang tallied four points, six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots for the Lady Texans while Grace Hunter netted four points and dished out three assists.
