#2 Lady Texans pummel Cloud County 85-54 Friday

CONCORDIA, KS — Ruth Koang recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds as the second-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team pummeled Cloud County Community College 85-54 Friday at Arley Bryant Gymnasium.

South Plains improves to 7-0 with the win and will look to remain perfect when they take on Pratt Community College on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Pratt. The game will stream live at spctexans.com.

Koang poured in 8 of 14 shots from the floor over 21 minutes as the Lady Texans shot 40.8 percent from the floor and 37 percent from the 3-point line. Future LSU Tiger Sarah Shematsi dropped in 17 points for South Plains, sinking five 3s to go along with two assists and a pair of blocked shots.

Asia McCoy provided 12 points coming off the bench for the Lady Texans, finishing 3 of 8 from the field and 5 of 6 from the charity stripe over 22 minutes. Sophomore guard Oceane Robin tallied 11 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, netting 5 of 7 shots from the field in 26 minutes of action, while TCU signee Caroline Germond bucketed eight points, six assists and a game-high seven steals for South Plains.

The Lady Texans forced Cloud to turn the ball over 25 times resulting in 27 points on the offensive end, as the Lady Thunderbirds shot just 26.9 percent from the floor and 4 of 15 from the perimeter. South Plains notched 18 points on second-chance opportunities and 38 points inside the paint, receiving 34 points from their bench.

LaKya Leslie led Cloud on the offensive end with 16 points and 10 rebounds, dropping in 5 of 14 shots from the field and was 6 of 8 from the free throw line. Jacy Dalinghaus netted 13 points and six rebounds for the Lady Thunderbirds while Kelsie Kelly had seven points and Alyssa Castilleja finished with five.
