No. 2 Lady Texans quiet No. 16 Grayson 78-53 Saturday

HOBBS — The second-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team picked up its second top 25 win in as many days Saturday defeating No. 16 Grayson College 78-53 at the New Mexico Junior College Classic.

The Lady Texans will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 22 against Cloud County in Concordia, Kansas at 6 p.m., the first of three road games for the Lady Texans in Kansas.

Sophomore Ruth Koang led South Plains(6-0) with the rock, pouring in 15 points and eight rebounds, shooting 6 of 8 from the floor in 19 minutes of action. Freshman Johanna Teder, a 5-foot-8 guard from Estonia chipped in 14 points coming off the bench for South Plains, finishing a perfect 5 of 5 from the floor and was 4 of 4 from the 3-point line over 17 minutes.

Sophomore LSU signee Sarah Shematsi netted 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, shooting 6 of 16 from the field in 35 minutes of action. Freshmen Ka'Lia Smith and Ashala Moseberry  combined for 16 points, each netting eight while sophomore TCU signee Caroline Germond tallied seven points, eight assists and four steals for the Lady Texans.

South Plains shot 47 percent from the field and found the net with eight 3s while forcing Grayson(5-2) to shoot just 25 percent from the floor and 3 of 14 from the 3-point line. South Plains outrebounded their counterpart 48-41 and scored 18 points on 28 turnovers from Grayson while netting 11 points on second-chance opportunities.

Manna Mensah led Grayson in scoring with 15 points and four rebounds while Tailor Broussard scored 14 points and snagged three bounds. Jana Asinde finished with 10 points and eight boards while India Green tallied four points and four rebounds.
