HOBBS — Ashala Moseberry scored a season-high 18 points as the second-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team trounced No. 13 Salt Lake 77-35 Friday at the New Mexico Junior College Classic.

With the win, Lady Texan head coach Cayla Petree picked up win number 100 at the helm of the Lady Texan basketball program. The Lady Texans improve to 5-0 on the year and return to the hardwood on Saturday at 1 p.m. MST against No. 16 Grayson College in Hobbs. The contest will stream live at spctexans.com.

Moseberry finished 6 of 7 from the field and 4 of 5 from the 3-point line as the Lady Texans shot 57 percent from the floor and drained eight 3s against the Lady Bruins. Sophomore Ruth Koang poured in 16 points off the bench, sinking 8 of 9 shots to go along with seven boards in 16 minutes of action for the Lady Texans.

LSU signee Sarah Shematsi chipped in 12 points and snagged five rebounds, dropping in 5 of 12 shots from the field including a pair of 3s over 30 minutes. Freshman Ka'Lia Smith netted 11 points in 15 minutes of action, connecting on 5 of 8 shots from the floor for South Plains.

The Lady Texans were ruthless on the defensive end, forcing 28 turnovers resulting in 23 points on the offensive end of the floor. South Plains had their way inside, tallying 42 points inside the paint and scored eight points on second-chance opportunities. The Lady Texans received 20 points from their bench and held the Lady Bruins to a 20 percent (9-45) clip from the field and a 4 of 14 mark from 3.

Riley Frith led Salt Lake in scoring with 12 points on 4 of 5 shooting and was 4 of 4 from the 3-point line over 35 minutes. Awa Sidibe netted 11 points and three rebounds, shooting 4 of 7 from the charity stripe in 32 minutes of action.
