No. 2 Lady Texans oust Lamar College 147-27 Thursday

LEVELLAND — The No. 2-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team set two program records Thursday in a 147-27 drumming of Lamar College at the Texan Dome.

147 points broke the previous school record of 145 points set against San Antonio College on Nov. 17, 2018. The Lady Texans' 120-point margin of victory is also a new program record, breaking the previous 109-point victory margin set against San Antonio College.

Freshman forward Ka'Lia Smith led all scorers with 24 points, dropping in 10 of 13 shots from the floor to go along with seven boards and a 4-for-4 mark from the free throw line. Sophomore Oceane Robin posted a career-high with 22 points on 8 of 11 shooting including a 6 of 8 clip from the 3-point line while hauling in three rebounds, two steals and a pair of assist.

South Plains' Caroline Germond was a point shy of her career-high, netting 22 points, 13 steals and 10 assists, pouring in 8 of 14 attempts and was 2-for-3 from the perimeter. LSU commit Sarah Shematsi tallied 18 points for the Lady Texans, bucketing 7 of 11 attempts from the field and was 4-for-5 from the perimeter to go along with five rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore forward Ruth Koang dropped in 9 of 12 shots from the floor, netting 19 points, 10 rebounds and three steals as the Lady Texans improve to 3-0 on the season. Ashala Moseberry netted 16 points, six steals, six assist and four boards, chipping in 6 of 9 shots from the hardwood including a pair of 3s.

South Plains will be off on Friday before taking on Northwest Kansas Technical College at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The game will stream live at spctexans.com and can be heard on KLVT Radio Levelland with Michael Wiiest calling the courtside action.
