No. 2 Lady Texans thump Northwest Kansas Technical College 78-41 Sunday

LEVELLAND — Ashala Moseberry dropped in 15 points coming off the bench as the second-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team thumped Northwest Kansas Technical College 78-41 Sunday at the Texan Dome.

The Lady Texans improve to 2-0 on the year and will return to the court on Thursday when they host Lamar Community College at 5:45 p.m. at the Texan Dome as part of the Lady Texan Classic. The tournament will stream live at spctexans.com.

Moseberry finished 5 of 9 from the floor and was 3-for-6 from the perimeter in 23 minutes of action. LSU commit Sarah Shematsi chipped in 10 points and two assists, sinking 3 of 8 shots from the hardwood and was 2-for-4 from the 3-point line over 16 minutes. Kor Fornesa Liu poured in nine points off the bench for South Plains, as the six-foot guard from Thailand was a perfect 4 of 4 from the field.

Sophomore center Ruth Koang finished with eight points and seven boards as the Lady Texans shot a 46.4 percent clip from the floor and were 7 of 16 from behind the arc. South Plains scored 16 points off 19 turnovers from the Lady Mavericks (1-1) and netted 15 points on second-chance opportunities. The Lady Texans won the battle on the glass 41-22 and received 45 points from their bench.

The Lady Mavericks shot just 30.6 percent in the contest and were 5 of 23 from 3. Josie Cook led NWKTC on the offensive end with 17 points and five rounds, sinking 6 of 12 shots and was 3-for-7 from long range. Zantasia White finished with eight points and three boards while Lauryn Vieira totaled seven and Aminate Seck had four.
