No. 5 Lady Texans throttle Western Texas 101-45 Thursday in Snyder

SNYDER — Ruth Koang set a career-high with 21 points and 12 rebounds as the No. 5-ranked South Plains College women's basketball team throttled Western Texas College 101-45 Thursday at Invenergy Court.

South Plains improved to 20-1 on the year and 5-0 in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference while extending their win streak to 17 games. The Lady Texans will be off on Monday before returning to the hardwood on Thursday in Clarendon against the Lady Bulldogs with tip slated for 5:45 p.m. from the Bulldog Gymnasium.

The contest will be streaming live at spctexans.com and Michael Wiiest of KLVT Radio Levelland will call the courtside action with pregame slated for 5:30 p.m.  

Koang finished 7 of 10 from the floor and also picked a pair of steals and blocked two shots in 25 minutes of action. Freshman Nyah Morris recorded a career-high with 20 points, draining six 3s in the contest and finished 6 of 9 from the floor over 27 minutes.

Sophomore Gabbie Green was her usual self, netting 17 points, five assists and four steals, bucketing 6 of 11 shots from the floor and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Freshman Caroline Germond tallied 16 points, three assists and three steals for South Plains, knocking down 7 of 8 attempts and was 3 of 4 from long range.  

South Plains' Romola Dominguez shipped in 11 points, five assists, and five steals as the Lady Texans shot 56.5 percent from the floor and 42.3 percent from behind the arc. The Lady Texans continue to frustrate opposing offenses and Thursday night was no exception as they forced 39 turnovers in the contest resulting in 43 points on the offensive end.

Western Texas (5-11, 1-4) shot just 34 percent from the field despite knocking down seven 3s in the contest. South Plains received 47 points from their bench and bucketed 46 points inside the paint as the won the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Lady Westerners 37-28 inside.
